1 Cardio-Vascular Response to Exercise

2 Long Term Responses of Cardiovascular System to Exercise
The Heart Increase in max HR as myocardium (heart muscle) becomes fitter. Increase stroke volume Decrease in resting HR Bradycardia Increase in potential cardiac output during exercise The Vascular System Increase in number of red blood cells (and haemoglobin) Increased tolerance for lactic acid Increased capilliarisation Increase in VO2 max (and a-vo2 difference)

3 Response of Cardiovascular and Cardio-respiratory systems to a warm up
Increase in body temperature Increase in heart rate and cardiac output Increase in minute ventilation Increase in blood pressure to force blood around body more quickly Release of adrenaline Blood shunting via vasoconstriction and vasodilation of arterioles More O2 delivered to working muscles

4 Examine the purpose of warming up to improve cardiac function during sporting activity. (6)
