1 International Municipal Signal Association Canadian Prairie Section Fall 2012 Newsletter To promote the safety of the general public through professional education, engineering and enforcement   A Word from New Board Members Daniel Kabaroff (City of Edmonton), IMSA CPS Alternate Delegate and Gordon Cheung (City of Edmonton), IMSA CPS Director This will be the first year that we are part of the committee. From our first executive meeting which was held at the end of May, we can see that the organization is in good hands under the leadership of Janis Chow and Dean Schick. We look forward to working with our team and the members to grow the organization here in the Canadian Prairie section. Our experience at the 2012 IMSA conference in Regina was positive. It provided us with an opportunity to meet a lot of colleagues and gain different perspectives on the traffic industry. The trade show and presentations were informative and highlighted some interesting new technologies that are available. Overall, it was a well organized conference and a great experience. We look forward to being involved with the planning for next year’s conference in St. Albert and we hope to see you all there! A Word from New Board Member Darrell Geiss (City of Regina), IMSA CPS Director I was lucky enough to be able to take in my first IMSA Conference this past spring which was held in my hometown, Regina. A lot of hard work and planning by members of the executive committee went into the event to ensure it was a successful one. This success was echoed in the sentiments of numerous vendors and attendees that I had talked to over the course of the three days. The vendors seemed very pleased with the room setup for the trade shows, and were impressed with the attendance numbers and those who showed great interest in the various products and equipment they had to offer. The technical presentations also showed great attendance numbers and went very well with numerous presenters offering informative discussions on a wide range of topics. Here’s looking ahead to a great 2013 conference in St. Albert, AB. IMSA Canadian Prairie Section Newsletter – Fall Page 1

3 2012 International Conference Update CONGRATULATIONS ERIC WHITBY!!!!!
In July, seven members represented the Canadian Prairie Section at the 117th annual international conference held in Orlando, Florida. This event provided an opportunity to meet with members from other sections across Canada and the U.S.A. The international conference is always well-organized with a certification school, numerous technical sessions and over 110 vendors in the exhibit hall. We’ve learned a lot from attending these events over the years and have applied some of the shared ideas to continue developing and improving our own local section. Next year’s International conference: 118th Annual IMSA Conference & 36th Annual IMSA School July 20 – 23, 2013 Scottsdale, AZ Current Issues: How do the individual sections keep their membership rosters current?
