1 2018-2019 FSUS 5th Grade English Language Arts

2 FOCUS FOCUS is updated on a weekly basis. Occasionally there is a delay in work being graded if it takes an extended period of time to review assignments or if there are other school events/activities that limit our time to grade. Grades will be posted by Monday of each week so that students will be able to check new grades during advisory on Monday afternoons and receive immediate feedback by reviewing graded and returned work in the Monday Folder.

3 Class Web Page Newsletters, field trip information, and links to websites (Spelling City, Reading Street) are posted on my class web page, located on the FSUS website. There is also a link to Google Class, however the students need to log in using their Google accounts to access Google Classroom.

6 Homework Students are expected to write in their planners each class period. They are given time at the beginning of each class to write in their planners and are directed to do so. Even if students do not have homework, they will always have SOMETHING to write in their planners. If your child is not writing in their planner, you may want to start signing their planner at home. I only conduct random planner checks if I suspect students are not writing in their planners, as time does not permit me to sign planners during each class period. I assign homework so students have the opportunity to practice skills and concepts we are learning in the classroom and homework most often follows this schedule: Monday – Spelling and Vocabulary (due Wednesday) Tuesday- Spelling and Vocabulary (due Wednesday) Wednesday- Reading Comprehension practice and Spelling City Thursday-Spelling City
