“Are there different habitats in the estuary?” A PEI Outdoor Learning Experience

2 Explorer Expectations
Stay with your group Leave nature the way you found it Stay on the trail Be a good listener Walking feet only No littering Practice careful observation Ask questions! Look, don’t touch

3 Field Journal On this journey, you will be making observations about life in each habitat! Make sure you record your observations in the tree maps and bubble maps in your field journal. Share your observations with your group so everyone has a chance to see all that these habitats have to offer!

4 The Big Cedar Trail We unload the buses here and begin our journey down the Big Cedar Trail. Remember to stay on the trail!

5 The Big Cedar Here we will make our first stop where we will listen to a Tribal Elder tell us stories of the Big Cedar tree. Make sure you are being a respectful listener.

6 The Bridge This area is part of the Big Cedar Trail. Make sure you stop here and take observations. The bathrooms will be located here. This is the ONLY bathroom along the way. DO NOT touch the plants! This plant is poisonous.

7 The Boardwalk Start your walk out to the beach! Record your observations along the way. There is a lot to discover, so take your time! Remember, NO LITTERING!

9 Streams Mudflats Trees

10 The Beach Explore the beach on the Hood Canal and enjoy your lunch. Make sure you take all of your garbage with you and don’t feed the birds. Do not leave anything behind!

11 Look for… Sea Creatures Plants Habitats Animals
Just remember… Don’t touch or eat ANY of the plants!

12 As you start your journey back…
Make sure you have everything you brought with you! Look through your Field Journal to make sure you have made as many observations as possible! You will be using these journals when we return to school! The bus will be waiting for you back where your Skokomish Estuary Exploration began.
