What is a Concept Map? A hierarchical diagram used to represent a set of concepts beginning with the most general or most important and then working down to more specific detail.

Key concepts are connected by links that have descriptive words on them explaining the relationship between the concepts.

Each subordinate concept is more specific and less general than the concept drawn from it Most important concepts are found at the top; less important ones are at the bottom Meaning relationships between concepts are indicated by a connecting line and linking word(s) or propositions

Why use Concept Maps? Some things are easier to explain visually; not all information is linear Helps global learners see the “big picture” Shows relationships between ideas/items/concepts Quickly represents information – easy to refer to Good way to have students draw out relationships

Declarative knowledge is factual or conceptual knowledge that a person has Procedural knowledge refers to how a person does something >>WHICH type of knowledge do you think works best in applying concept maps?
