Lewisham has significantly higher incidence of bowel Ca than for London and England overall Mortality 10% of Ca deaths in Lewisham were due to bowel Ca in 2015/16 Lewisham’s bowel Ca mortality rate is significantly higher than the comparison benchmarks (London and England) Survival Lewisham is significantly below England and its neighbours in terms of one year survival rates for bowel Ca Epidemiology

3 Prevention Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
Lewisham has significantly lower uptake (44.8%) than for London (48.8%) or England (57.9%) but in line with statistical neighbours Lewisham has been increasing but more slowly than in England overall Awareness of early signs and symptoms PHE Be Clear on Cancer Campaign Prevention

4 Early Detection and Diagnosis
Bowel Ca is more commonly diagnosed at Stage 4 in Lewisham than in London or England overall (26% vs. 22% for both London and England) Lewisham compares well to both statistical neighbours and England overall in terms of bowel Ca diagnosed in A&E (25% vs. 30% stat neighbours and 26% England) Early Detection and Diagnosis
