Direct Instruction Figurative Language
Metaphor – Comparison of objects by replacing one object with another E.g. “She was a vampire, sucking the blood of my free time with extra homework.” Simile – Comparison of objects using like or as E.g. “He was as hungry as a wolf.” Personification – The act of giving an inanimate or non-human object human characteristics or actions E.g. “The leaf danced and twirled as it fell from the tree.” Exaggeration – Giving extreme examples to emphasis a point E.g. “I’ve told you a billion times to tidy your bedroom!”
