1 A Look At “Learn” To “learn” is to progress. When fully considered, learning can involve intellectual, moral, and general character advancement. What does the Bible teach about learning?

2 A Look At “Learn” To learn implies teaching.
The state of learning and lack of learning are both recognized. Learning is required. Learning is possible. God has provided the means for learning. See slide number three for the scriptures for each of the facts presented in this slide.

3 A Look At “Learn” “33: Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end” (Ps. 119). “14: And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another” (Rom. 15). “16: As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction” (2 Pet. 3). “10: That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1). “4: Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ” (Eph. 3).

4 A Look At “Learn” We are to learn of Jesus.

5 A Look At “Learn” “29: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matt. 11). “44: No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. 45: It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me” (John 6).

6 A Look At “Learn” Learn the meaning.

7 A Look At “Learn” “13: But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Matt. 9). It is not enough to just memorize scripture or read it, we are to learn the meaning. Learning in this sense involves imbibing with our understanding and heart; it implies practical and full application.

8 We are to learn doctrine.
A Look At “Learn” We are to learn doctrine. Too many are attempting to de-emphasize doctrine!

9 A Look At “Learn” “17: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18: For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple” (Rom. 16).

10 A Look At “Learn” All may learn.
It is God’s design and desire that the assembly be used for education. In general, all of God’s people are to learn.

11 A Look At “Learn” “31: For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted…. 35: And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church” (I Cor. 14).

12 Learn to show piety at home.
A Look At “Learn” Learn to show piety at home.

13 A Look At “Learn” “4: But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God” (I Tim. 5). To show piety at home means to address the physical needs of those within our households and those such as parents and grandparents. What a sweeping change this would make (if all did it) regarding the financial draw involving America (relief programs, etc.) and also institutional churches of Christ (churches that support homes for the aged, etc.).

14 A Look At “Learn” Learn obedience.

15 A Look At “Learn” “8: Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9: And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him” (Heb. 5) Many in America and even in the church today are defiant. Suffering is needed to produce a contrite spirit of obedience.

16 We are to continue in learning.
A Look At “Learn” We are to continue in learning.

17 A Look At “Learn” “14: But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them” (2 Tim. 3).

18 A Look At “Learn” Conclusion:
“6: As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction” (2 Pet. 3). The importance and urgency of learning is seen in 2 Peter 3: 16. We need knowledge to avoid spiritual destruction.
