Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. It can be in the form of solids, liquids, or gases.

5 Three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas.
Adding or taking thermal energy from matter changes the state of matter.

6 Some examples of physical properties are:
Color Density Conductivity Flexibility Malleability Boiling point Melting point Viscosity Strength Organic (living)

7 Properties of matter can be observed or measured.
What are some properties of the following objects.

8 Physical Property Activity
Objective Come up with at least five properties for each object. See if other groups can guess the objects based solely on your properties. See if you can guess other groups objects based off their properties. Record the activity on a table in your notebook.

10 Physical Property Activity
Procedure: Get in groups of 2 or 3. Grab two random baby jars with objects within. Identify at least five properties for the object in the jar. Remember properties of matter can be observed or measured. You may not use the name of the object, what it is used for, or the specific material it is made out. Return the baby jars. Find two other groups and try to guess each other’s objects using only the properties.
