2 Prime Time : AUG. 28TH : Use your reading from yesterday to answer prime time.
What did Columbus and other European explorers discover when they reached the New World? What did they do with these newly discovered items? Who had more domesticated animals, the Old World continents or the New World continents? Why did the diseases brought to the New World by the Europeans have such a devastating effect on the Native American population? What was one major reason why Europeans began exploring the New World besides plants and animals? Explain the concept of Columbian Exchange.

3 Columbian Exchange Task:
Step 1: Number each box (1-6). Step 2: As we re-read the source, we will BAG AND TAG the information we need to complete the task. Step 3: In COMPLETE SENTENCES, put the information we Bagged and Tagged in the appropriate boxes. Step 4: Draw an arrow from the New World Plants directly across to the Old World boxes. Illustrate one New World Plant. Step 5: Draw an arrow from the Old World Plants directly across to the New World boxes. Illustrate one Old World Plant Step 6: Continue this process and include an illustration for each box. (6 pics total)

Read the article one time to get familiar with it. Number the paragraphs. Read the questions at the bottom of the page. Re-read the article and BAG AND TAG the answers for the questions. Answer the questions at the bottom of the page.

Where is Roanoke Island located? When Sir Walter Raleigh went to the New World in 1585, what did he discover that caused him to return to England and gather more supplies and settlers. What present day state did the English land when they returned to the New World? Who was the leader? What did he name the colony? Who assisted the settlers with food? What did they provide them? What did Governor White discover when he returned years later?

According to Source #1 who established Jamestown? According to Source #1 what was the main reason for establishing Jamestown? According to Source #2 what body of water was Jamestown located near? Use Source #1 and #2 to explain one positive aspect of Jamestown’s location and one negative aspect of Jamestown’s location. Source 2 Chesapeake Bay
