Land granted by church based on family needs, size and skills valued by community
Legally required to attend Church

The Scripture offered solutions to all problems of individual conduct
government, social organization and education needed to understand scriptures
Adherence to strict puritan laws showed salvation and prosperity
Used government to enforce religious uniformity
Parents must repress children’s willfulness and teach them obedience to God
