Today we will just focus on clauses.
All clauses have a subject and a verb.
Subject – Who/What the sentence is about.
This is a clause. It’s got a subject (Susie), a verb
(brushes).
Susie brushes her teeth.
Verb – doing word
at the pond.
This is not a clause because it doesn’t have a subject and a verb.

3. Identify the clauses. walked up the stairs
I will finish reading my book
My nan’s best friend
Despite being dark and gloomy
the deer ran

4. Now check your answers! walked up the stairs
I will finish reading my book = clause
My nan’s best friend
Despite being dark and gloomy
the deer ran = clause
Remember a clause has a SUBJECT and a VERB.
