Good teamwork Be positive: Well done! We can do this! Lets try again Be sociable: Lets take it in turns Be curious: What happens if we try this…? Be reflective: How did that go?

A robot: Is not 'natural' / was made by people. Can often see, hear or feel. Can do a job / useful work. Is intelligent, or can make choices. Can be programmed to do different things. Can move. Seems to have a life of its own, like a living thing. Can be roughly the same shape as a human.

Why are robots useful? Can do things lots of times without getting bored or making mistakes Can do things more accurately than humans Can do dangerous things without risking lives

Act like a robot! I am going to give you some instructions. Pretend you are a robot and try to follow instructions exactly.

The LEGO NXT robot Be very careful – do not snatch Be gentle Take it in turns to hold the robot and push the buttons, read the instructions and be the checker Have a go at the instructions on the sheet

Challenges Can you make your robot: move backwards when you wave to it? go forwards until it hits an object then beep? clap and make it go forwards? clap and make it beep?

Aims and LQs What is a Robot? How do I make a LEGO robot move using buttons? How do I make a LEGO robot move when it senses sounds or objects? …and did we have fun?
