2 Administrative staff & adult roles at conference
Share the spirit of Youth Alive with participants, including positive attitude, enthusiasm and commitment Maintain conference order through “Honor, Dignity and Respect” Provide leadership for small group sessions Administrative staff & adult roles at the conference Share the spirit of Youth Alive with participants including positive attitude, enthusiasm, and commitment Provide a positive and non-threatening environment, maintaining the “Honor, Dignity and Respect” philosophy throughout the conference Provide leadership for small group sessions, allowing youth to lead out while the adult supports them. use 4-6 pairs of adult and youth facilitators Rationale By experiencing how to lead cluster groups, adult and youth facilitators gain confidence in leading the Friendship Group (FG) 7-12 session during Youth Alive conference Goal: To be comfortable in leading small Colored-cluster groups using 4-6 pairs of adult and youth facilitators, and go through the various introductory activities Rationale: By experiencing how to lead Colored-cluster groups, adult and youth facilitators will have more confidence in leading out the Friendship Group (FG) 7-12 session during the Youth Alive conference Youth Alive Training

7 Explanation Adult and Youth facilitators divided into colored clustered groups Introductory activities done so members of colored clustered groups meet each other in a relaxing/non-threatening way Allow members of clustered groups to connect “their heads with their hearts” Explanation Adult and Youth facilitators will be divided into various Colored-cluster groups Go through the introductory activities so that members of the Colored-cluster group will meet each other in a relaxing way, and learn things in a non-threatening way Allow the members of the Colored-cluster group to connect “their head with their hearts.” Not only understanding, but the genuine feelings for one another needs to be felt. 8 Fundamentals of Group Dynamics
Trust is the pacemaker in group growth When colored clustered group is not working –members usually feel it is not safe to share their feelings Fundamentals of Group Dynamics Trust is the pacemaker in group growth. When trust is developed, people can communicate genuine feelings and perceptions of issues relevant to them. However, when the Colored-cluster group is not working, it is usually because their members do not feel the situation is safe to share their feelings. Youth Alive Training

11 Divide adult & youth facilitators into 2 groups
Youth group (below 30 years) Adult group (above 30 years) Line up 2 groups side by side Pair adult and youth co-facilitators for assigned Friendship Group that takes place during the Youth Alive conference Divide the whole adult & youth facilitators into 2 groups Youth group (below 30 years) Adult group (above 30 years) Line up 2 groups side by side Pair adult and youth co-facilitators for assigned Friendship Group that takes place during the Youth Alive conference. 12 Known as co-facilitators of FG 1, FG 2, FG 3, etc.
They will then be known as the adult and youth co-facilitators of FG 1, FG 2, FG 3, etc. Youth Alive Training

13 Colored-cluster groups
Then form various Colored-cluster groups, consisting of 4-6 pairs of adult and youth co-facilitators per group. Thus the adult and youth co-facilitators of FG# 1-6 will form the red cluster, while adult and youth co-facilitators of FG# 7-12 will form the blue cluster and so on. Each cluster has one colored label and they will work together as a group throughout the one and a half day facilitators’ training on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. This way these various Colored-cluster groups can compare notes on how the day went and give support to their members. Youth Alive Training

We will now break into cluster groups to play the introductory activities so that you can feel relaxed and be yourself. (20 minutes) Youth Alive Training

What did you learn? “People feel good when they have a positive adjective before their names” Assist us to focus on the positive traits of others Cluster Group activities Request the various Colored-cluster groups to return to the larger group and process the game played. For example, ask, “What did you learn?” Responses may include: “People feel good when they have a positive adjective before their name”, which assists in focusing on the positive traits of others. Break into Colored-cluster groups again and do the second activity. Youth Alive Training

17 Three Truths and a Lie Three Truths and a Lie (See Youth Alive Participants’ Manual, page 80 & 81) Request the various Colored-cluster groups to return to the larger group and process the game played. For example, “What did you learn?” Response may include: “Many times people put on a mask and do not reveal the truth about themselves.” Through this “Three Truths and a Lie” game, it helps us to be able to know ourselves. What makes us comfortable in a group? What needs must be met for us to feel trust? What are some of the things we need for a positive climate? Building a positive group climate Ask questions such as “What makes us comfortable in a group?” “What needs must be met for us to feel trust?” “What are some of the things we need for a positive climate?” The trainer needs to accept all the comments of the group, which are usually the positive qualities of a good friend such as: Youth Alive Training
