Mitosis
2
Interphase Cell Growth Stage G1 S G2
90% of all cells are in this phase Nucleus is bound by the nuclear envelope Chromosomes are duplicated, still in the form of chromatin
3
Prophase 1st “true” stage of mitosis
Chromatin condenses into chromatids Nuclear envelope begins to disappear Spindles begin to form
4
Metaphase Chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell
Nuclear membranes is completely dissolved Spindle fibers extend and connect to chromosomes
5
Anaphase Sister chromatids are pulled apart by spindle fibers toward the poles
6
Telophase Spindle fibers disappear
Nuclear envelope begins to develop again Chromosomes begin to uncoil Cytoplasm may start to divide
7
Cytokinesis Division of cell’s cytoplasm
Vesicles create a growing plate that divides the parent cell Final stage of mitosis
