8 How you can make a difference
We need your help! You could fundraise for us – or become a volunteer. We continue to exist because people need us. Whether we can be there for people when they call, though, depends on you. We receive almost no government funding, so it’s your donations that keep us going. By helping us you can help us save lives. Every 60 seconds, someone with suicidal feelings contacts us. Your support helps us provide a safe place for people to talk about things they may never have spoken about before.

9 We work to achieve this vision by making it our mission to be
Always available Reaching out to high risk groups and communities Working in partnerships Influencing public policy Since the day Chad Varah established our organisation we have been about helping people find their way, their way. Our vision is that fewer people die by suicide. We work to achieve this vision by making it our mission to alleviate emotional distress and reduce the incidence of suicidal feelings and suicidal behaviour. We do this by: Being available 24 hours a day to provide emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of emotional distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. Reaching out to high risk groups and communities to reduce the risk of suicide. Working in partnership with other organisations, agencies and experts to achieve our vision. Influencing public policy and raising awareness of the challenges of reducing suicide.

11 Highland Fling Ultra Marathon 28th April 2018, myself and Simon James CEO running for The Samaritans
Talk to us – if things are getting to you. You don’t have to be suicidal. We’re always here – round the clock, every single day of the year. A safe place – as volunteers we’re ordinary people who keep what you say between us. Be yourself – whoever you are, however you feel, whatever life’s done to you. We’re a charity – it’s your kind donations that keep our helpline open. This is what Samaritans is all about – we help people to find their way, their way. People can talk to us, because we are always here. We offer a safe place, where people can be themselves. And we are a charity. It is your kind donations that keep our helpline open.
