1 A BEHAVIOR BASED SAFETY SYSTEM
1 minute Pc, Projector, Speakers and register.

2 Where BBS Fits in the Organization Safety Spectrum
When presented with a risk always consider these 3 components as these are the 3 pillars to a safe working environment and zero incidents. Engineering controls: Is there a fault in the system design? Can the design be changed to eliminate the risk? Is it possible to redesign the work zone if ergonomics is an issue? Are workers using the right tools? Do they have the correct equipment for the job? Is it possible for a machine to do the task instead of manually done by hand? Can a barrier be installed? Safety management system: is the current system being used valid? Does it need to be amended? Is it being used? Is the training fit for purpose, are the workers receiving the appropriate information? Are the procedures task specific? Are the procedures easily understood and available? Are there enough people to do the job? Is the timeline given to perform the task adequate? Behavior: we may provide all the tools, training, and supervision however people may still put themselves at risk. This is where BBS comes in to identify Why people are doing what they do and How can we make a proactive effort to change their behavior. When presented with a risk we need to remember the hierarchy of safety: Attempt to eliminate the hazard Have employees work around the hazard Guard or warn employees about the Hazard Train employees to deal safely with the hazard and provide them PPE. Always remember that BBS does not eliminate the need to look at traditional methods of safely engineering work.

3 COMPARISON OF BBS SYSTEMS IN PDO
IHTIMAM STOP ONE FITS ALL APPROACH. FOR FIELD STAFF ONLY. ORIGINALLY LIMITED TO SUPERVISORS. GENERIC OBSERVATION CARD. OBSERVATION CARDS NOT FOCUSED. TRAINING SPECIFIC FOR SUPERVISORS CASCADED TO ALL STAFF. PRODUCT DILUTION OVER TIME. DATABASE NOT USER FRIENDLY. NO ACTION TRACKING. QUANTITY OVER QUALITY. CUSTOMIZED APPROACH. INCLUDES OFFICE PERSONEL. VERY SIMPLE. DESIGNED THROUGH ENGAGEMENT OF STAFF. OBSERVATION CARDS ARE LIMITED TO 5 FOCUS AREAS. OWNERSHIP OF SYSTEM WITH SUPERVISOR. COMPREHENSIVE ONLINE DATABASE. ONLINE ACTION TRACKING. TRAINING SPECIFIC TO AUDIENCE. 5 LEADING KPI’S MEASURE EFFECTIVENESS Describe the differences between Stop & Ihtimam.

4 KEY DIFFERENCES IN IHTIMAM
Training Content & Delivery Observation Cards Determining Success Reporting database The key differences in Ihtimam are the following: Observation Cards are risk specific, they target the different disciplines such as (rigs, camps, catering, mechanical, plumbing, construction, warehouse, offices etc), and they are kept at 5 behaviors per card. These 5 behaviors are selected through the ICB process which is identifying critical behaviors. This is done by analyzing the incident data of the past 2 years and selecting the critical behaviors that have led to majority of the incidents. Training Content, training material is targeted at the different audiences. Training is delivered for all individuals in the company, from a director and mid management level (BBS Felt Leadership), to the front line supervisors (BBS Felt Supervision), and the rest of the employees (BBS Awareness). Reporting Database is available online and accessible by everyone, it allows for upload of the observations cards directly, and gives supervisors and management an overview of all the data. Smart reporting also allows for the export of performance reports at the ease of a button. Determining success through leading KPIs, Ihtimam is a pro active system that focuses on quality of observations, action close out, percentage safe scores, target specific.

5 OBSERVATIONS THE RULE 80 20 From our research we have found that if we focus on 20 percent of the behaviors that cause majority of our incidents, we will have an 80 percent improved safety performance. As behaviors and work routine are usually repetitive, they happen over and over again until they eventually lead to an incident or worse.

6 THE OBSERVATION CARDS Our observation cards are customized for each discipline and even each sub discipline. The risks vary and wanted to reflect that in our cards. The number of behaviors on each card are no more than 5 at a time, once a unit is able to reach their percentage safe score targets they can retire the behavior and replace it with another. The cards are easy to use, and are available in english and arabic. Observations can also be ranked as high, medium and low risk.

7 THE OBSERVATION CARDS [online template]
This is the template that is available online to upload observations.

8 REPORTING Observe Close Actions Feedback Analyse Document
01 Continuous ly Improve 06 Feedback 02 Observe an individual or group. Observe Close actions related to the observation. Close Actions Give constructive feedback, with the attempt to identify the root cause. Feedback Analyze the data periodically for areas of improvement. Analyse Analyze 05 Document 03 Document the observation in the database Document Enhance the system in order to improve ease of use, and efficiency. Continuously Improve Close Actions 04 The cycle of observations is similar to previous BBS programs, however in Ihtimam it is designed to ensure the loop is closed and the system does not become stagnant. Once something is observed, its crucial to give constructive feedback and document the observation. An action if needed is then input into the database with a close out date. The data is analyzed weekly, monthly and annually to review performance, and areas for improvement. It is important to continuously improve the system, the observation cards, and the training in order to sustain Ihtimam.

9 DATABASE The dashboard of the database indicates personal and company performance.

11 TRAINING There are 4 key training programs for Ihtimam. The first is the awareness training targeted at support and office staff.

12 TRAINING The second training is BBS felt supervision which is predominantly held at site for front line supervisors.

13 TRAINING BBS felt leadership is for coastal staff from a mid management to a CEO position.

14 TRAINING Course Description:
Provide you with the knowledge to properly implement Ihtimam behavior based safety system within your company. Key learning objectives: What is BBS and the fundamentals of its success. Understanding behaviors (ABC analysis) Understanding positive and negative reinforcement. Ihtimam methodology and materials. Train the trainer is targeted at those within the company who are nominated as trainers or coaches.

15 PILOT LAUNCH CARILLION DALMA IN-SOURCING 10th JAN 2017
Ihtimam was originally piloted on January 10th 2017 in Carillion, Dalma and Insourcing for 8 months. The slides that follow are the feedback from over 400 individuals who were part of the pilot.

WELL ENGINEERING

17 Sustainability Review Summary
POSITIVE IMPROVEMENTS ON SITE AFTER LAUNCH OF IHTIMAM Previously in STOP system no one cared about it, but in Ihtimam there are improvements in the observation and intervention Using finger savers. previously they were using rope to tie the hammer. I raised Ihtimam observation with regard to the water tanker and it was taken seriously by the supervisor and has been fixed. Positively changed crews thinking and behavior with regards to safety. This can be noticed during the discussion with crew. Ihtimam makes us focus on the critical behaviors that are on the card. Staff are more careful about safety, more focused on the job and its hazards involved, they avoid mistakes that leads to frequent incidents. Allows me to make suggestion for change and improving safety issues in my unit. Improvement in lifting equipment. I stopped one crew and the card was discussed in the meeting, the person changed his behavior positively. Raising observations against people who are not using PPE led to company providing PPE. As the root cause was lack of stock (e.g. Glove& finger saver) Workers are taking IHTIMAM seriously as a program to improve the safety culture and behaviors in the work place Caution and awareness before the start of the job. Awareness about the most dangerous at risk behaviors. More encouragement at the worksite to intervene. The trend of the positive behavior is increasing since the launch of Ihtimam It helped change behaviors especially in tag line. previously it was not used which may have caused an incident but now that it is mention in Ihtimam cards, it helps to prevent this. Driver has stopped using their mobile while driving When intervening unsafe work , just say the word IHTIMAM and people working be alerted and stop the activity Always talking about IHTIMAM , so IHTIMAM is in everyone's mind After raising card on PPE , we get the PPE immediately I intervened when I saw a man working at height and not taking safety precautions

18 Sustainability Review Summary WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IHTIMAM
90% Overall Satisfaction WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IHTIMAM It is simple, easy, and focused on the root cause. It raises awareness Identifies the underlying causes in order to tackle the real problem. It also identifies areas of weakness. Can be sent to management for quick response. Can make observations through phone. Promotes discussion & collaboration with crew. Honest system, improves the safety culture. BBS team at coastal was perfect as they always engage with the team and accept all ideas from crew. Supervisor follows up to close actions. Others accept my interventions, now I can even intervene my supervisor My suggestions are being implemented. Communication is improved, and the crew is part of finding solutions. The database shows trend of behaviours. The card also has a list of most frequent critical behaviour which are subject to change. Allows management to change the hazardous conditions into safe working environment. The way we should write the card and the conversation related prior to writing the card. Ihtimam has created a good relation with the people, they feel how much we care for each other. Improved compliance. Makes me feel the company is taking care of safety. Makes the employee more responsible.

19 WHAT GOOD BBS LOOKS LIKE
OUR ASPIRATION Humanistic Safety is about people, not numbers. If we use the numbers to help the people, the people will help us with the numbers. Communication Workers tend to perceive organizational priorities by the quantity of communication about one priority vs. another (safety vs. productivity) Practical For everyone at every level including the company and environment. Involved Workers People support what they help create. Involving workers increases ownership and safety at a personal level. Integrated Truly successful safety efforts are not something else we do, they are the way we do everything. Focused Customized and focused on what is needed. Lastly this is what good looks like for Ihtimam. Result Oriented Investing our efforts into safety will automatically lead to results. CI Proactive, transformational and continuously improving.
