SCIENTIFIC METHODS

Problem Research Hypothesis Experiment Analysis Conclusion State what the problem is so that it is understood. Find as much information about your problem as you can. Form questions about your problem to help with the research and hypothesis. Based on the findings of your research, form a hypothesis or an “educated guess”. Test your hypothesis by conducting experiments. Study the data from your experiments and perform any necessary calculations. Use your analysis to sum up the lab and explain if your hypothesis was proved or not.

THE ENGINEERING CYCLE

Variables

Variable Independent Variable Dependent Variable Control Something that can change in an experiment. Something in an experiment that you, the experimenter, changes on purpose to test your hypothesis. Something in an experiment that changes in response to the independent variable. Something in an experiment that is kept from changing, it remains constant.
