1 E-health standardization activities in ITU-T SG16
Joint Meeting of ITU-T Q28/16, IEEE PHD, WHO 29 October 2013 Geneva, Switzerland E-health standardization activities in ITU-T SG16 Masahito Kawamori, Rapporteur, ITU-T Q28/SG16 “Multimedia framework for e-health applications”

2 Topics ITU-T Q28/16: Introduction Q28/16 Study Items Q28 Recommendations eHealth on IPTV Future Actions

3 ITU-T Study Group 16 Lead group on Multimedia issues Received Emmy award for its H.264 codec Recommendation Studies issues such as e-health, accessibility, IPTV, video-conferencing, wireless multimedia, etc.

4 ITU-T Q28/16 focuses on standardization of multimedia systems to support e-health applications. achieve interoperability among systems and to reduce the cost of devices through economies of scale. provide the environment for harmonization and coordination of the development of a set of open global standards for e-health applications.

5 Q28/16 Study Items Identification of users' requirements
Multimedia framework (including overall concept) for e-health applications (and telemedicine, in particular) Roadmap for e-health (including telemedicine) standards Generic architecture for e-health applications (and telemedicine, in particular) Specific system characteristics for e-health applications (e.g. video and still picture coding, audio coding, security, directory architecture, etc) Considerations on how to help measure and mitigate climate change

6 Q28/16 (draft) Recommendations
H.IDGPHS (Interoperability design guidelines for personal health systems) H.MEDX "Multimedia e-health data exchange services: data schema and supporting services"

7 Q28/16 (draft) Recommendation: H.IDGPHS
defines the Continua Design Guidelines (CDG) which contains specifications to ensure the interoperability of devices used for applications monitoring personal health. It also contains additional design guidelines for interoperability that further clarifiesy these specifications by reducing the options in the underlying standard or specification, or by adding a feature missing in the underlying standard or specification.

8 Q28/16 (draft) Recommendation: H.MEDX
specifies a common health schema and describes the supporting services and systems architecture for a health data exchange that allows an exchange of multimedia health data between a health provider, a controlling function and patient.

9 Multimedia Application for e-Health: IPTV Example
ITU-T’s standardized IPTV has been tested for interoperability with e-health devices

10 Standardized e-Health Interface
ITU-T IPTV has been tested with Continua Health Alliance-compliant devices to provide standard interfaces Presentation IPTV

11 Architecture of the e-Health System
Connecting the standardized devices, e-health system, and IPTV systems, T-health system Ideal for both developing and developed countries

12 Implemented e-Health System
Standard Smart IPTV IPTV e-health Application (run on TV) E-Health Server Standardized Wireless Gateway Standardized monitoring devices

13 Future Actions 2 Important Recommendations on e-Health to be consented Continue to work with External Bodies to promote Interoperability of e-health applications More documents, such as Testing Suites, White Papers, etc.
