Protect people and the environment from armful effects of ionizing radiation Nuclear installations: Avoid accidents Reduce their consequences as much as possible Risks: Contamination, irradiation, evacuation, impossible food consumption, etc…

6 PROGRESSIVE APPLICATION OF SAFETY STANDARDS
Established for a mature situation where installations are already operated No guidance on their progressive implementation IAEA is developing specific guide for progressive implementation of Safety Standards

1. Road-map to gradually apply the IAEA Safety Standards 2. Terms of reference to tailor the Safety Review Services 3. Training framework for embarking countries
