Increase the nurse home visitor’s knowledge of breastfeeding and breastfeeding support by standardizing breastfeeding education and measuring a pre-test/post-test with a team average score increase of 15%.

4. How is the intervention carried out?
Ist step: Complete pre-test
2nd step: Read Wellstart International Lactation Management Self-Study Modules
3rd step: Complete post-test within one month of pre-test
4th step: Record all pre-test and post-test scores and calculate average of each group of scores

5. Evidence that the intervention is effective
According to one nurse, “The self-study modules were very beneficial to my practice, easy to read, and a great learning experience.
Initially we trained all nurses and supervisors that were currently working. As we hired more nurses, they were trained within 3 months of hire.
The chart on the left shows each nurses’ pre-test and post-test scores with the calculated averages. The chart on the right shows the number of nurses that have been trained.

6. Pre-requisites for the intervention
Each person that was trained had some initial knowledge of breastfeeding.
The team needed the support of the supervisors to stay on track with completing the self study modules.
