1. INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN NICARAGUA - A RIGHT THAT IS FULFILLED THROUGH A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

2. Nicaragua, signed and ratified the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, the law 763 was created.

3. On a national level different programs have been strengthened in the framework of Community Based Inclusive Development (DBID) as a means to reduce poverty and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals  

4. In this context ASOPIECAD, supported by CBM, recognizes the importance of networking and alliances with organizations of persons with disabilities, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

6. This facilitates the full and effective participation of people with disabilities at different levels of planning and implementation of different activities, both locally and nationally.

7. RESULTS Increased autonomy of people with disabilities in various community activities.    

8. People with severe disabilities excluded both at home and in the community, have improved their quality of life through participation in different programs (self-help groups, interest groups, support groups for parents and caregivers).

9. The access for people with disabilities to basic services in rural communities. has significantly improved  

10. Strengthening inclusive education from early childhood at Community level. Families with more knowledge and skills regarding the orientation of the education of children with disabilities.

11. Opportunities for formal employment and self-employment for people with disabilities have increased Strengthening of networking and alliances with organizations of persons with disabilities and government institutions nationwide

12. CONCLUSIONS The strategy CBID, facilitates the construction of inclusive communities in a more just society, where people with disabilities can actively participate in the social, political, economic and cultural development through the implementation of community initiatives for eliminating barriers in the environment that prevent full participation in equal opportunities.

13. RECOMMENDATIONS The family involvement in the process of inclusive development of the person with disabilities is important, but so is the professional collaboration, with defined roles of participants and motivators in this process. Information: In a CBR project, this can be done through partnership with local organizations, local media and CBR commissions in order to keep families permanently informed on everything related to the issue of disability.

14. ORIENTATION: Family support, with an attitude of understanding and empathy, respecting the criteria and decisions of parents, but also the interests of the person with disability with a rights based approach.

15. Accompaniment: From a program within the framework of the CBID strategy this support can be provided with a defined role as a facilitator of the process, participating just enough to carry out its function, which in this case would be to encourage parents in their active and creative participation.

16. TRAINING: It's another aspect which is key to the empowerment of persons with disabilities and their families, taking into account the formation to make themselves as well as their families more focused on their own needs and to make their own decisions.?
