Video and Essay Format

2. The purpose of the project: The project is designed to help students understand the importance of various Supreme Court cases that influenced the laws and policies that govern the United States.

3. Project Requirements 1. Group Work The project will be done in a group format (2 students per group). Each group will be assigned two (2) cases Video Proposal Sheet Must be completed and approved/signed before starting the video. 3. Video (Time frame: 6-12 minutes per group)

Essay Each person will write an 600 word essay (Must follow the Essay Format on the instructor’s website). 5. “The Process” (Participation in the lab) – The Instructor will monitor the students to make sure they are working. Students who are not engaged in the assignment will lose points. Make sure you are working!

Project Requirements (continued) 5. The project must be complete (video and essay). If one part is of the project is missing, the student(s) will get not credit for the whole project. It’s all or nothing!

6. Video Format 1. Each group (2 students) will be assigned two (2) Supreme Court cases to present. 2. The presentation will be through YouTube. It can be deleted after it has been graded. 3. Each student must be in the video to get credit. If you do not appear on the video, you do not get credit. 4. Video must be visually clear. The sound (audio) must be loud and clear to get a good grade.

7. Video Format (continued) Each group must use a news format or a simulation format for the video. Format #1. News Format Students can create a video of news broadcast that will talk about the Supreme Court case in a news format with news anchors. The report should explain the case and its outcome to get a good grade.

Video Format (continued) Format #2. Simulation of the Case (Recreate a Scene): Students can do this by studying the background of the case and re-create the case in a short story format. It should explain the case and its outcome to get a good grade.

9. Video Time Frame - Minimum of six (6) minutes - Maximum of Twelve (12) minutes The time frame for the video will be strictly enforced so anything under the minimum or over the maximum will result in a lower grade.

10. Creating a “YouTube” video.
Each group will create a “YouTube” video by using the student’s Google student accounts. Student can use their camera phones to record their videos and follow the steps below: 1. Log into your Google account, then go to the YouTube link on the corner right hand side (application boxes). 2. 3. Each group must complete a “Video Proposal Sheet” (link for proposal sheet in on the instructor’s website) so the instructor can review and approve the video. The instructor will not approve cartoon or graphically enhanced videos for the project.

4. Each student must be in the video to get credit. You cannot claim to be the camera person, director, writer/editor for the project. Each student must report-out on their individual case for credit.

14. Essay Format - Each group (2 students) will be assigned two (2) Supreme Court cases to write two separate essay. Each student will be responsible for writing an essay about their individual case. If a student does not write an essay for their case, then no credit will be given for the whole project.

2. Video (Send YouTube video link through ) Make sure to put your full name on the subject line so the instructor can identify who submitted the video project. 3. Essay (Collected) Each person in the group will submit a hard copy. It must be typed and formatted properly.
