2 Motor Cortex Motor Cortex
- Every voluntary movement you make is controlled through the primary motor cortex - located in the back of the frontal lobe, just about at the top of your head. - signals in your brain are sent to the muscles, telling them to make a movement. For example, sometime after you woke up this morning you might have thought to yourself, 'I need to get up.' Without giving it a second thought, a short while later you were standing by your bed and making your next decision of the day. In that brief period of time your PMC and other parts of your brain were doing a tremendous number of calculations to avoid having you fall in a heap on the floor. Motor Cortex

3 Motor Cortex Motor = car = movement of muscles Right behind the frontal lobe Car behind the front car – trying to “motor” to catch up Motor Cortex

4 Somatosensory Cortex IDEAS FOR A MNEMONIC??
This area detects and interprets information on - touch - temperature - pain - pressure This area allows us to perceive the size, shape, and texture of an object via touch. This area is responsible for helping us monitor the position of our own body in space. IDEAS FOR A MNEMONIC??

5 Remembering the brain Cerebral Cortex (Cerebrum)
Outermost layer – covers the brain BIGGEST area Divided into the four lobes Picture a TEXAN in a BIG hat Remembering the brain

6 Remembering the brain Frontal Lobe Where complex thinking occurs
Judgements, decisions, planning Picture Einstein on your forehead in a front door Remembering the brain

7 Remembering the brain Temporal Lobe Where auditory processing occurs
SOUND! Think about music and the tempo of it OR think about where your ears are  Remembering the brain

8 Remembering the brain Parietal lobe
While swimming in warm waters a Piranha bites you on the top of your head Parietal lobe on the top of the brain Senses pain, temperature, touch Remembering the brain

9 Remembering the brain Occipital Lobe - Octopus with Eyeballs
Area of SIGHT! Eyes in the back of your head - occipital lobe in the back of your head Remembering the brain

10 Remembering the brain Cerebellum Ballerina – BELLE – need coordination
Helps your BELLance (balance) Positioned right in the middle in the back Remembering the brain
