History Process Project Overview (Navigant Research) Questions and Answers

3 CABA Overview About CABA:
CABA is the authoritative knowledge-based forum advancing the application and integration of automation in the residential and commercial building industry. Definition of Intelligent Building Technologies: The use of integrated technological building systems, communications and controls to create a building and its infrastructure which provides the owner, operator and occupant with an environment which is flexible, effective, comfortable and secure.

4 Intelligent Buildings and Big Data
History of the topic Process of proposals Funding levels Current sponsors:

5 Intelligent and Integrated Buildings and Big Data 2014
I’m so excited to present this overview of our proposal I AM Big Data is a subject I am passionate about, and I hope that your see we make the most compelling choice for these three reasons: 1) We have the expertise  IT, building performance, energy management 2) CABA community, as Members, and presenting at conferences 3) Novel deliverables Big Data Analytics is the key to unlocking Optimized Intelligent Building Performance Overview of Navigant Research’s Approach Noah Goldstein, PhD, LEED AP Research Director

6 Navigant Research Overview

Research programs: Smart Energy Smart Utilities Smart Transportation Smart Buildings Research Offerings: Research Reports Subscription Research Services Custom Market Research Custom Market Analysis Strategic Advisory Sessions Market Sizing and Forecasting Commercial Due Diligence Primary Research Technology Evaluation Go-to-Market Services

7 Intelligent and Integrated Buildings and Big Data Project Team
Noah Goldstein Research Director, Analyst Team Lead Clint Wheelock Managing Director Eric Bloom Principal Research Analyst BEMS, Innovation Bob Lockhart, CISSP Research Director Cybersecurity Ben Freas, ME Research Analyst Building Controls, HVAC Core team and leadership for CABA project. You may know Eric Bloom- he is a rising star in the BEMS world, and presents at events like EE Global Forum and IBCon Bob L is our resident data security expert, and isa Certified Information Systems Security Professional Ben Freas is our resident ME on staff, having working in buildings, he has real-world insight I’ll be working with Clint Wheelock, on the CABA Board, to ensure interviews are relevant, and to assure high quality control We have a great staff of analysts who hail from both an IT and intelligent building background to contribute to this effort. AS you’ll see on the next slide Research Analyst Staff Additional analysts will contribute to the project in conjunction with the core team above.

8 Knowledge Convergence
Navigant Research captures intelligent and integrated building trends and cleantech industry dynamics Our strength in this proposal lies in the integrated way we work together. Our team is constantly working on all of these elements of intelligent buildings, and how data streams impact them.

9 Partners Navigant is active across the intelligent building ecosystem – suppliers, manufacturers, utilities, etc.

10 Landmark study Approach and Deliverables

11 Project Purpose and Scope
Examine new tools and resources to help companies use data collected from intelligent and integrated buildings Quantify current and near-term challenges and opportunities that Big Data provides to automated building management and operations Turning Big Data in Energy into Big Intelligence (Source: Navigant Consulting)

12 Research Study Challenges:
CABA Project Focus Project Objectives: Capturing the evolution of Big Data Defining the Big Data value proposition Leveraging Big Data to optimize operations and increase market share  Research Study Challenges: Defining Big Data in intelligent buildings Understanding the perception of Big Data in the intelligent building ecosystem Finding intelligent building solutions to enable optimized performance Key Project Deliverables: CABA Building Data Reference Customized research report and sponsor-tailored webinar Results of more than 30 targeted interviews and 400 survey respondents Mechanical and data engineering calculations of changing data flows and rates in intelligent buildings The database is: database data volume and rates for key building systems across different commercial building sectors What they talk about Webinars meet sponsor needs I am very excited about this resource

13 A Look at Building Automation Data Growth
By 2015, 17 petabytes per year for all BASs in North America By 2021, 52 petabytes per year for new construction alone Approximately 2 petabytes: All U.S. academic research libraries BAS Daily Data Throughput by Controls Segment, North America: BAS Installations by Controls Segment, New Construction, North America: Here’s a snapshot of changing data rates (Source: Navigant Research) (Source: Navigant Research)
