1 How temperature affects the rate of photosynthesis?

2 Key terms- Photosynthesis is the process when plant make food, using carbon dioxide, water and sunlight energy. Respiration is the process when glucose in living in living cells are converted in carbon dioxide, water and releasing energy.

3 How temperature affects the rate of photosynthesis?
High temperature causes respiration to take place even more quickly than photosynthesis. This causes the products of photosynthesis to used for respiration. If this happens the plants will not grow, Low temperature results in poor plant growth because photosynthesis is too slow at a low temperature. If the temperature falls below 0ºcs plant cells and tissues can be destroyed if this happens many plants will be killed.

4 A plan on how plant growth if affected by temperature.
Hypothesis We think the more the temperature increases the more bubbles the cabomba plant will give off. The rate of photosynthesis will increase as the temperature increases because photosynthesis is catalysed by enzymes. So, as the enzymes approach their optimum temperature the overall rate increases. Also this means that there are more successful collisions between the molecules which will make a higher yield.  Equipment Cabomba plant: 250cmᵌ beaker Boiling tube Scissors 2% potassium hydrogen carbonate solution Thermometer

5 Paper clip Ruler Variables  Independent: different temperatures of water Dependent: counting the amount of bubbles produced by the plant Control: Same concentrations of potassium hydrogen carbonate solution, same cabomba plant, same amount of water, same intensity of light, same time counting the amount of bubbles E.G 1 minute. Method Gather all equipment Get the boiling tube and add the cabomba plant to it with 20cmᵌ of potassium hydrogen carbonate solution Get the paper clip and use it to clip the cabomba to the boiling tube to stop it from floating Now get a beaker and fill it with 200cmᵌ of water at the temperature you need and add the thermometer Get the lamp and position it 10cm away from the beaker each time. Add the boiling tube of cabomba and potassium hydrogen carbonate to the beaker of water (keep the thermometer in the beaker of water)  leave the plant for 1 minute and count the bubbles. Repeat the step above three times for each different temperature of water. E.g 10, 20, 30, 40, 50ºc. When changing the temperature of the water remove the boiling tube of cabomba and potassium hydrogen carbonate and add the water until you reach the correct temperature on the thermometer. DO NOT CHANGE THE CABOMBA PLANT OR POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE WHEN DOING THIS EXPERIMENT!

6 11. When you have done this leave the plant for 30 seconds and repeat counting the bubbles again for another 1 minute 12. Repeat step 11 again so you will now have 3 readings 13.
