1 Class Teachers- Mrs Smith, Mrs Fowler and Miss Shipp
What is it like in Year 1? Class Teachers- Mrs Smith, Mrs Fowler and Miss Shipp

2 End of Reception Statements
EMERGING EXPECTED EXCEEDING The child is still working towards the Early Learning Goal - EMERGING The child has achieved the Early Learning Goal - EXPECTED The child is working above the level of the Early Learning Goal - EXCEEDING

3 What does this mean for my child?
EMERGING- Will continue in Y1 to work with the EYFS. May have a particular identified need or may be close to reaching the expected level. Your child will be supported with intervention groups if required. EXPECTED- Is ready for Y1, will move onto National Curriculum. EXCEEDING- Already working at Year 1 level, will continue to be stretched and challenged in Y1.

4 What does School do with this information?
It is used to help Year 1 teachers plan lessons to support all children. This information is passed on during meetings between Reception and Year 1 teachers. The data is used to track the children’s progress throughout the school. The data is given to the LA and is collected nationally.

5 What remains the same in Year 1?
Role play area Construction area Messy area An outdoor area – soon to be improved! Independent snack area Digging area Eating lunch in the hall

6 What is different? Morning playtime every day Assembly every day
PE twice a week. Children will learn games through our new PE scheme as well as Dance and Gymnastics throughout the year. We mostly read in groups for guided reading which takes place during assembly time once a week. Half termly assessment. More carpet sessions.

7 How the year progresses
We ask you to bring the children into the classroom and settle them for the first week and a half. We then ask you leave them in the cloakroom. The first term is very similar to reception with a play based environment. The play based environment continues all year, but the children have structured challenges which build up as the year progresses. Towards the end of Year 1 the children will take part in a phonics screening check.

8 Daily Activities By the end of the year the children are completing 4 daily activities independently each day. At least one of these is English and one is Maths. These are completed when they are not working on an adult directed activity. Games Outdoor activities Written work

9 Year 1 as a base We will be running year 1 as a base with one role play, one outdoor construction etc. The children will be taught on the carpet in their separate classes and then will be free to move across the space. We have a daily Phonics session and a Marvellous Maths session. Children are encouraged to build on the independence they have developed in Reception and work more in groups.
