2 Elementary Tool Kit Messages
Only take medicine from individuals that a parent (or guardian) gives permission. Do not share medication or take someone else’s medication. Keep medications in their original containers to avoid confusion with candy or other medicines. Always store medicine in a safe place, such as a locked cabinet or a high shelf that children can’t reach. Newest Department

1. Letter to parents. 2. Invite parents to the event where students will be learning. 3. Send information from the adult portion of the curriculum about medication safety steps to the parents. 4. Have information about Generation RX at a school event or community center event. Include information for elementary students and parents.

10 Can I Adapt the Activities?
1. Yes, you can. 2. The developers of Generation RX encourage you to pay attention to your room layout and available technology. 3. Example: Is it candy or medicine game: you do not have access to a computer or projector. You may wish to use a Power Point file as a guide and play the game using clear plastic bags of medicine and candy as visual

11 Is There Anything I Shouldn’t Do?
1. Lecture. 2. Avoid using complicated terms and vocabulary 3. Don’t be nervous to work with children. 4. Don’t use scare tactics.

12 Activity Stations 1. EACH ACTIVITY IS DESIGNED FOR 2 TO 8 YOUTH.
2. HAVE AN ADULT OR TEEN LEADER AT EACH STATION. 3. ACTIVITIES ARE DESIGNED FOR A SMALL GROUP OR AS PARTNERS. 4. SET UP THREE DISTINCT WORK AREAS WITH ALL OF THE SUPPLIES IN EACH AREA. 5. ASSIGN STUDENTS TO AN AREA. 6. 10 TO 15 MINUTES IN EACH AREA. 7. ROTATE STUDENTS.

OBJECTIVE: Analyze scenarios to determine if children followed safe medication-taking practices. Supplies: Skits Pens and pencils
