1 Computer Management Plan Terry Lawley / ED 508

2 Classroom Computer Rules You must have a signed Technology Usage Permission form on file, signed by your parent or guardian to use any computer at school. Do not modify settings on the computer or download any programming without teacher permission and supervision. You are responsible for saving your own work. Bring a flash drive, save your work frequently, and make backups. NO streaming music, playing games, or watching videos that are not class supported. If you encounter something you shouldn’t, turn off the monitor and immediately get the teacher. Filesharing is prohibited and often infringes on copyright laws.

3 Copyright & Fair Use Always give credit where credit is due! If you use someone else’s words/picture/idea you must credit them by acknowledging their work and ideas. Plagiarism is copying another person’s work and passing it off as your own; this act is illegal and punishable by law. Anything published on or before December 31, 1922 is public domain; however, you must still give credit to the creator when known. Things that are not public domain can’t be copied in their entirety without written consent. Fair Use allows students to use small pieces of copyrighted work as long as it’s for an educational project. You still have to give credit. – Movies: up to 10% or 3 minutes, whichever is less – Music: up to 10% or 30 seconds, whichever is less – Text: up to 10% or 1,000 words, whichever is less, unless it is a poem (see teacher for special poem rules) – Pictures or photos: no more than 5 per artist/photographer

4 Computer schedule My classroom has 4 computers and 20 students; each class period lasts 80 minutes. The class will divide into 4 groups of 5. Each day of the week, the groups will rotate. The groups would be assigned days by randomly pulling the group number for a day of the week. Whenever appropriate, the class will go to the computer lab in the media center so that everyone can use a computer on their own. If my class only had one computer, we would go to the lab weekly. The five groups would have to rotate 15 minutes at a time to use the computer.
