2 1. Stronger communication between Governments in each Province
Colonies had separate governments and operated like small independent countries Supporters argued that joining together politically would create stronger trade and communication connections

3 2. promise of More Unified and cooperative Political parties in the Province of Canada
Confederation supporters promised to improve gov’t by having all members vote the same way as the rest of their political party Government of the Prov. of Canada: Filled with politicians who did not cooperate well together This made passing new laws difficult because not all party members voted the same way Explain parliament USE CLASS TO DEMONSTRATE PARLIAMENT -Green party, Red party, Blue party, Yellow party (RED PARTY= official govt, most members) Show how not having all members vote the same way can lead to bills not being passed efficiently

Division between Canada East and Canada West parties Canada East Parties: French/Catholic based Canada West Parties: English/Protestant based Different values and needs, forced to work under a single government Difficult to make and pass new laws

Supporters of Confederation suggested that if Confederation was achieved, Canada East and Canada West should be divided into two separate provinces, each with its own government.

7 4. Confederation would bring responsible government to the colonies
-Confederation would result in the colonies no longer being controlled by Britain THAT MEANS: -the colonial governments would also no longer be controlled by Britain. -Members for the government would be voted for by the PEOPLE in the COLONIES. NOT SELECTED BY OFFICIALS IN BRITAIN -Governments giving a voice to the people Working for the people in the colonies, not for Britain
