10 Things to Try to Deter Crime

11 Add lights to the rear of your homes to light up the alley way at night
This light is the street light at Debarr Alley between Sunrise St and Kinnikinnick St Photo taken at 8pm on

12 Park your vehicles in your drive way’s or garages.
Sunrise Dr 18 cars parked on St Kinnickinnick St 14 cars parked on St Most drives way and garages were to the rear in the alley. When I checked the alley’s I noticed there was plenty of room for vehicles in the rear driveways, residences just need additional lighting

13 …Cont LOCK YOUR CARS AND HOMES Keep Valuables out of sight.
Consider making a parcel drop box for your front door for UPS, FEDEX or larger delivers from USPS Social Pressure Groups For those who like to walk at night-get with 4+ people who also like to walk at night and meet at different times through out the week. Report suspicious activity. Especially if it is coming from one particular residence. Be specific on the address and what type of activity you believe is going. Always report a crime either through dispatch or online.

14 Other Agencies to Utilize
Code Enforcement to board up abandoned houses or to at least contact owners of rundown properties Traffic Engineers office to put up no parking signs in alley’s. Become part of Trail Watch in your neighborhood

15 What APD Has Done 670 Officer Initiated Calls- 502 Traffic Stops
The police are patrolling your neighborhood. 502 Traffic Stops 168 Subject Stops I spoke with APD Traffic Unit about survey results and they advised they patrol the area regularly.

16 Homeless When a homeless camp is located report it on line. Be specific in it’s location and if possible mark the route with flaggers tape. (gps can be confusing) The illegal camper receives 15 days to vacate. Parks and Rec place the camp in a que for clean up. What happens if the camp is on private property?

17 Problem Residences Excessive Police Response Ordinance AMC 8.80
AMC 8.80 is an ordinance which allows APD to charge Home Owners for excessive Police calls. Residence gets 8 police responses before it is considered a nuisance. Has to be to a specific address or Apt # Some complaints do not apply such as Domestic Violence calls. If a location qualifies the owner of the property could face fines starting at $ per police response over the maximum allowed. This is why it’s important to call about specific locations.

18 Parking Problems How APD handles Parking Problems
A call is generated and it is a low priority call If the vehicle is parked illegally it can be cited If the vehicle has been parked for more then 24hrs it can be red tagged If the vehicle is abandoned it will be white tagged with a possible civil cite going to the registered owner. Side note-it is a parking violation to park the wrong way on a street. You have to park the vehicle in the direction of the lane of travel
