Preparing yourself for your future

2 Preparing for Post-Secondary Education
Preparing for Post-Secondary Education starts long before you ever step foot on the campus. There are many steps that must be taken before you will meet the requirements set forth by a School. Deadlines can cause severe problems and set backs if not met. An insoficient ACT score can severely limit your options for Healthcare Programs.

3 Choosing the Post-Secondary Institution that is right for you
When looking for a Post- Secondary institution, consider the following points… Distance from home Programs that are offered Cost of attendance Living arrangements ACT scores Required Finacial Aid/Scholarships that are available Safety

4 Research Researching your Institution is your responsibility, and will help you develop a plan for your future. Research Choose the top 2 Institutions that you are interested in For each Institution, you will be researching the following information…. General Admission Deadline General Admisssion ACT requirement, GPA requirement FASFA (What is FASFA? What is the deadline for having this completed?) Cost of attendance Choose 2 Financial Aid Programs/Scholarships you need Financial Aid (ACT requirement, GPA req., application Deadline, extra classes/GPA needed to keep) Scholarships (ACT requirement, GPA req., Application deadline, extra classes/GPA needed to keep)

5 Research Continued Research
Choose 2 Programs of Study that you are interested in then research the following for each… Program Admission Deadlines ACT Requirements for the program Is there an Interview? Application? Recommendations? Any other requirements? Class Hours needed to complete that program List Each of the courses you would have to take to complete the program. When do classes begin? Additional Costs of the program (gas to clinicals, stethoscope, scrubs, computer, etc.) Living Costs (apartment, dorms, live at home (gas cost))

6 Activity Now that you have information over the deadlines and requirements, you will be creating an education plan for yourself for these Institutions. Create a Timeline/Calendar to help you keep up with the Deadlines. Create a Cost Budget that will help you and your family plan for your expenses. Now that you have looked at 2 Institutions and multiple programs, write an essay over which Institution and Program you believe will fit your needs the best. Make sure to include information over why you are choosing.
