Choose a screename that does NOT give away your name, age, gender, and hometown California Mary Smith 13 Washington, D.C. 11 Male Female John Smith

13 Online Blogs Avoid postings that could enable a stranger to find you: your name, your school or sports teams, the town you live in, where you hang out If your service has a "friends" list that allows you to control who can visit your blog, be sure to allow only people you know and trust. Never allow messages that are mean, threatening or embarrassing to you or others. Avoid getting together with someone you "meet" through a blog unless you are certain of their actual identity. If you do meet them, meet in a public place and never go alone. Avoid posting photos that can make it easy for people to recognize you. Before uploading a photo, ask how you would feel if that picture were seen by your parents, school counselor, employer, boyfriend/girlfriend, or your grandparents. Do not lie about your age. Age limitations are there for a good reason. Claiming that you are older than you are could get you into trouble and put you at risk.

26 Online Safety Tip “Friends”
Only add someone as your “friend” if you know and trust them in real life Don’t just accept anyone as a friend for fun- by doing so, you are allowing a stranger access to personal information in your profile The “friend” may not really be who they appear to seem; he/she may have bad intentions

Wants to meet you in person Wants to talk to you on the phone Wants you to send them a picture Wants to send you pictures Wants you to tell them personal information Asks you for your password Makes you feel uncomfortable Say NO… and immediately tell your parents!
