4 Creating a Custom Waypoint from Present Position
Push the joystick (activates pointer at present location) Don’t rush; the marked point won’t move. Press ENT to save Write down coordinates Waypoint is already sort of saved. Note that sometimes you’ll have to answer a question before saving your point. Presentation slide 20 of 40: Half way. Should be less than two hours so far.

FMS knob: Waypoint: Entry Point Pattern: Parallel Initial DTK: Mag heading on first leg (you correct for variation) Initial Turn: Left/right after entering search pattern Leg Length: 5NM - 7.5NM Spacing: 1.0NM Number of legs: 6 – 8 FMS knob: ACTIVATE SAR ENT button *NOTE: Will go direct-to entry point If North/South Tracks: leg length = 7.5nm number of legs = <miles in 7.5 minutes of longitude> + 1 (round up) If East/West Tracks: leg length = <miles in 7.5 minutes of longitude> number of legs = 8 In Colorado (at 40deg latitude) there are 5.7NM in 7.5 minutes of longitude. See Also consider leaving one half NM from grid corners so you’re not spending time looking outside the grid.
