3. Animal farm is an allegory
As discussed, an allegory is a story where everything (characters, names, titles, situations, setting, etc.) are symbols or agents
Many themes and morals are suggested from the novel animal farm, but one remains constant—the Russian revolution.

4. What is the Russian revolution?
The Russian revolution began at the end of world war I ( )
The ruler at the time was tsar Nicholas (Romanov)
The revolution was the product of a civil war within the country and centered on rule and power

5. Who was involved in the revolution?
Russian under Romanov rule
Several leaders that rose to power
Germany (Nazis)
England and united kingdom

6. Why?...and what was the outcome?
Why…what else: power!
Romanov rule was completely destroyed
Russia was ushered into a new order and under a new rule
Division among classes
“absolute power completely corrupts.”

7. What does this have to do with animal farm?
Animal farm was written in 1954; is both a dystopia and an allegory
George orwell was a writer who wrote and spoke about political injustices
Uses his allegory to comment on the corruption of power
Each animal, event, and problem can be connected to the Russian revolution (no coincidence…this is purposeful)

8. Russia’s Last Tsar
Since you guys were so great with testing yesterday, we’re going to have an easier day than normal 
We’re going to watch a short National Geographic film called “Russia’s Last Tsar”
As we watch, make sure you pay attention and respond to the film questions – they’ll come in handy for our activity tomorrow!
