Five independent associations were identified after stepwise association analysis within the MHC region at the discovery stage. (A) The most significant association was mapped to amino acid position 11 in HLA-DRβ1 (Pomnibus<0.001). (B) After adjusting for position 11 in HLA-DRβ1, an independent SNP (rs ) within PRRC2A was identified. (C) Adjusting for these two variants identified position 96 in HLA-DPβ1. (D) After adjusting for position 11 in HLA-DRβ1, rs , and position 96 in HLA-DPβ1, another independent signal position 55 in HLA-DQβ1 was found. (E) Adjusting for position 11 in HLA-DRβ1, rs , position 96 in HLA-DPβ1, and position 55 in HLA-DQβ1, an independent signal at HLA-A (position 156) was identified.
