2 Transport in Plants Plants need to carry water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. Plants need to carry food from the leaves (photosynthesis) all around the plant.

4 Transpiration Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves of a plant. The Transpiration stream is the flow of water from roots to stem to leaves.

6 Functions of Transpiration
To carry water to leaves. Why? To carry minerals up from roots. To cool the plant by evaporation.

7 Stomata Water is lost in the leaf through the stomata on the underside of the leaf.

8 Xylem Water and minerals are carried up the plant in vessels called xylem.

9 Phloem Food and nutrients are carried throughout the plant in vessels called phloem.
