4 Key Concept #3 At each stage in arts integration, teachers use strategies to encourage student engagement in the creative process, making connections, developing oral language and participating in academic discourse.

5 The Creative Process Stage 1: Thinking
“Close your eyes and listen as I guide you through a visualization that will serve as the inspiration for the art you are about to create.”

7 The Creative Process  Stage 2: Doing
Using the materials at your table, create your tree. Pay attention to the shape, texture, color. Will you use symbols, abstract images, or geometric shapes?

Non-judgmental language Validate the creative impulse Be open to the results Ask reflective questions

9 The Creative Process Stage 3: Talking
Using open ended questions and prompts allows students to think critically about the artistic choices they made and to critique the artwork of their peers.

11 The Creative Process Stage 4: Writing
Using the 4 Process questions you can take your students through a quick and effective way to reflect on the activity and write about what they did and, more importantly, learned.
