2 Life Circa 1400 Circa means around or approximate date(s). So, what was life like before John Cabot arrived in North America (1497). The native groups in NL changed continuously. Even a small change in weather and migration patterns of animals could lead to a group migration or a group starvation. Migration – When a group of people or animals move from one place to another in search of resources to sustain themselves Prior to arrival of Zuan Caboto, (John Cabot) the Beothuk, Innu and Inuit were established in NL. ( see page 120)

6 Beothuk The Beothuks are the aboriginal people of the island of Newfoundland. Lovin’ the Europeans! The Beothuks acquired great skill at refashioning these objects into useful tools which would have considerably increased the efficiency of their hunting technology.

8 To Remember Due to limited and/or incomplete information, it is frequently difficult to reach definitive conclusions about the past. We can however, use available evidence to speculate about people in “this place”.

Students may work with a partner. Please provide as much detail as you can. This sheet will be taken in at the end of two classes and graded. Furthermore, this information will may be used for the end of unit test.
