1 WELCOME TO OUR NURSERY FAMILY WORKSHOP
FOCUS: PSED Tuesday 10th October 2017

2 What is a Family Workshop?
A termly meeting during school time for the families in our school. Specific to your child’s class –one per term throughout school. Linked to an area of the curriculum. Staff teach a specific aspect for families to then pass on to their children at home. Children join their family for the second part of the session.

3 Your child’s learning and development is shaped by the world they live in. The people and experiences that surround them all influence how your child makes sense of this world. There are many theorists who have tried to explain this including: Piaget who said “Children build their own understanding and form their own ideas of the world by the things they do.” He believed adults should give their children many experiences involving play, meeting others and learning how to do things for themselves. Being sociable essentially help children develop and learn. Vygotsky thought “the world children inhabit is shaped by their families, community and culture. Daily interactions contribute to their construction of knowledge and understanding.” Interactions with adults and children actually help advance children’s knowledge development. Dewey also had similar thoughts and felt pre-schools build upon what a child has already learnt from home. He felt children learn best when they interact with each other.
