5 Speaking to inform is one of the most important skills you will need in your jobs and life!
In a survey, 62% of college students said they used informative speaking “almost constantly.”

6 A speech designed to convey knowledge and understanding.
Not to advocate (提倡 )a cause! is the information communicated accurately? is the information communicated clearly? is the information made meaningful and interesting to the audience?

7 Chapter 13 Speaking to Inform
Inform - imparting knowledge and understanding - accurately, clearly, and meaningfully. Types: Objects – people, places and things Processes – how something is made, done or works Events – happenings (marriage, World Cup) Concepts – beliefs, theories, ideas, etc. 7

8 Tips for Informative Speaking
1. Don’t overestimate what the audience knows. 2. Don’t be too technical (技术性). 3. Personalize your ideas 4. Avoid abstractions (抽象) p.186 5. Be creative 8

9 Listeners want to be entertained as they are learning from your speech!
