3 Mediation A neutral 3rd party listens to both sides and proposes a recommended solution Recommendation does not have to be accepted by either side

4 Mediation Pros Cons Unbiased person is helping to solve the problem
If one side doesn’t like the recommendation, they aren’t forced to accept it May not solve the problem if the recommendation is not accepted by both sides

5 Arbitration Neutral 3rd party listens to both sides’ arguments
Creates a solution Both sides MUST accept the solution

6 Arbitration Pros Cons Unbiased person is helping solve the problem
Guaranteed to end the dispute One or both sides may not like the final decision, but must accept it

7 Fact-Finding Neutral third party collects facts about the dispute (rather than listening to arguments) and presents nonbinding recommendations Neither side has to accept the recommendation

8 Fact-Finding Pros Cons Unbiased person is helping solve the problem
