What other civilization that we have studied is on the map? Notice that Upper Egypt is south of Lower Egypt. Why do you think that is?

3 The direction of the flow!
The Nile is the longest River in the world (4,000 miles) That is farther then the width of the U.S. It flows NORTH! Why? Water runs down hill and the Nile is going down the hills of Africa from the mountains of Ethiopia.

Delta is a fan shaped area of silt (what makes the soil rich or fertile) where the river splits into tributaries (branches) near where a river flows into the sea. Cataract is a waterfall or rapids in a river The Nile has 4 major cataract’s

8 Shadoof When the water receded, dug out basins stored water to be used for irrigation The shadoof is a bucket on a long poll that lifts water. It helped to transfer the water that was stored and water from the Nile, into canals for irrigation
