2 Philosophy I believe all students can be successful in my classroom if they choose to do so. I believe mathematics is a language and science of patterns. I believe students learn best when engaged with activities that are meaningful to their lives. I believe mathematics is not a spectator sport. I believe that mathematics is not the most important thing students will learn in my class. Home

4 Classroom Procedures Rules of Respect Warm-ups Assignment Sheets
Respect others and their property. Students will receive the level of respect which they give. Rules of Respect At the start of class on Monday through Thursday students must complete question that are waiting for them on the overhead. Warm-ups Students must keep track of assignments on a sheet provided to them by Mr. Shick. All assignments are listed on the side board for two weeks. In case of absence, students can easily find out what they missed. Assignment Sheets On Fridays students must update their assignment sheet from the side board and fill out a form. Form includes questions about current grade which they must calculate weekly. Weekly Self Eval. Home

5 Grading Policy Due Dates Retakes of Tests and Quizzes Grade Scale Home
Due dates are listed on side board for all assignments and copied to the assignment sheet. Flexibility to due dates is only considered upon extended absences. Due Dates Retakes of Tests and Quizzes All tests and quizzes may be retaken unless prior notice is given to students. Retakes must occur on students own time, before or after school. Mr. Shick is always available for extra help. Grade Scale Yes, students may not earn a “D” in Mr. Shick’s class. 6 Technology Graphing Calculators Computers Brains Home
Students are assigned a Texas Instruments TI-82 that they may use in Mr. Shick’s classroom. Their TI-82 is available for check out after school. Graphing Calculators Computers Students are assigned a computer to use in Mr. Shick’s class. Applications used include MS Word, MS Excel, and The Geometer’s Sketchpad. Brains The most powerful piece of equipment any student can bring to class is required. Home

7 Curriculum Integrated Algebra II Math Prep Home
Coursework includes Functions, Algebra, Statistics, Geometry, Transformations, and Probability. Highlights include computer animations and many hands-on activities. Computer usage is heavily applied to all units. Integrated Algebra II Math Prep Coursework includes preparation for success in Integrated Algebra I and II. Arithmetic and basic algebra skills are a focus of the class. Highlights include project based learning to encourage initiative by the students. Organization and study skills are emphasized. Computer usage is heavily applied to all units. Home
