2 Causes of the War of 1812 impressment - When the British Navy captured Americans and forced the American to be in the British Navy. shipping interference - Britain and France were at war. George Washington wanted to stay neutral but American was trading with France. This made Britain angry. Britain then interfered with shipping and trading between American and France. Indian Resistance - Americans were moving West. The Indians were being removed from their territory. The British told the Native Americans to resist removal and fight against the Americans. War Hawks - THe War Hawks were a group of young men that tried to persuade Congress to go to war against Britain.

3 War of 1812 caused economic changes in the nation
As a result of the war of 1812, Americans had to rely on U.S. manufactured goods. Improvements were made to transportation routes including the building of roads and canals. (Ex. Erie Canal 1825) To promote U.S. manufacturing, tariffs were placed on imported goods.

4 Effects of the War of 1812 The United States earned respect work wide. The U.S. became known as a superpower because they defeated Britain. The United States Army became more sophisticated and well trained. Manufacturing increased. The U.S. didn’t want to rely on Britain any more.

The British burn the White House down in Dolly Madison risked her life to save a portrait of George Washington painted by Gilbert Stuart.

Francis Scott Key was a prisoner at Fort McHenry. He watched the British attack the fort. The U.S. states won and kept the fort. Francis Scott Key wrote the National Anthem, about this situation.

Andrew Jackson defeated the British at the Port of New Orleans. Britain wanted the port so they could take over trade. Andrew Jackson became a hero.

9 Events of the War of 1812 The Treaty of Ghent ended the War of 1812 between Britain and the United States. Nothing changed between the two countries.
