2 Challenges in Developing Regions
Subsistence farming needs to keep pace with population growth. Green Revolution: more productive agricultural techniques (higher yield seeds or fertilizers) Began during the 50’s. Saved many lives during the 70’s and 80’s by preventing a food shortage in developing countries.

3 Continued... The world's population had been increasing since the late 18th century as a product of the Industrial Revolution. We are now reaching a point where growth in population has surpassed available agricultural land. International trade has assisted this. International trade helps supply people with Green revolution products and allows for people to switch to commercial farming. A reliance on exports and imports to these developing countries has helped prevent food shortage.

Agribusiness: The system of commercial farming in developed countries. A major issue for farmers in this region is over production Farmers are capable of producing much more than is demanded.

7 Continued... Governments in these areas tend to subsidise farms to address this issue. Food stamps are an example of this. The government will even purchase excess production or provide tax incentives to alter the practices of farmers. Subsidy: a sum of money granted by the government or a public body to assist an industry or business so that the price of a commodity or service may remain low or competitive.
