9 READING Close Reading: Is reading and RE-reading until you get what you are after. It is reading and thinking about what you are reading. Handwriting: Is based on legibility, spacing, size, and letter formation. Spelling: Based on phonics lessons taught each week in McGraw-Hill materials. The lists will progressively get tougher as the year goes on. Vocabulary: Eight words are introduced each week. The students will practice writing the words in meaningful sentences to be tested on at the end of each unit. Students complete electronic vocabulary slides each week to practice this skill.

10 MCGRAW-HILL RESOURCE 1. Start at the LPS homepage: 2. Type in “Wonders” in the search box Your child will have a login and a password 3. Have fun searching and discovering activities that will enhance your child’s reading skills. 4. You can also get to this on our website. 5. Each student will get a yellow card with directions and their username and password to take home.

11 Personal Reading Books
If your student would like to bring a book from home for personal reading time, it will stay in their book box until the end of the week. Students can also keep Eastridge library books in their book box.

12 3rd Grade Testing 3rd Graders will take both the CoGat and ITBS in the fall. NESA tests will take place in the spring. Dates TBA

13 Chromebooks Each student has their own Chromebook to use throughout the day. Used for reading, writing, and unit studies assignments. Assignments are assigned through Google Classroom and Wonders. Students and parents need to sign the electronic agreement. Let’s take a look!

14 Water bottles Students may bring a WATER bottle to school.
It is preferred that water bottles have a secure lid. Water bottles will have a specific location to be kept in their classroom. This will protect the Chromebooks.
