Possible mechanism by which tissue transglutaminase enables gliadin to activate susceptible mucosal T cells. Transglutaminase forms a physical linkage to glutamine residues in gliadin, then catalyzes a formation of a peptide bond between glutamic acid residue formed by removing ammonia from glutamine with lysine residues in the T-cell DQ2 binding pocket.
