Development of the Silla and Koryo Dynasties
In 668, the Silla kingdom united the Korean peninsula with the support of the Tang in China. Korea became a Chinese tributary state. Confucian ideas were practiced in government and in families. In 935, the Koryo dynasty took control and established a new capital at Songak. Koreans began to make celadon vases and jars, which were highly valued in Asia.

The Choson Dynasty Rules for Over 500 Years
The Choson dynasty was the last Korean dynasty. Under the Choson, the Korean alphabet was developed and the literacy rate rose. Japan tried to conquer Korea. To stop the invasions by sea, the Koreans developed “turtle ships.”
