1 Overview of Software Development
VCE Computing 2016 to 2019

2 Sof Dev focus – software solutions and systems
Programming practice Analysis and design Software solutions Firstly – here are the four Areas of Study that form the focus of Units 3 & 4 SD Programming practice Unit 3 – O1 AoS 1 Analysis and Design Unit 3 – O2 AoS 2 Software solutions Unit 4 – O1 AoS 1 Interactions and impact Unit 4 – O2 AoS 2 Interactions and impact

3 Software Development Structure
Exam SAC Set of code modules SAT Solution analysis Software Folio of design solution ideas Written report or Project plan visual plan SAC Written report or visual report U3 O1 U3 O2 U4 O1 U4 O2 U3 AoS 1 Programming practice U3 AoS 2 Analysis and design U4 AoS 1 Software solutions U4 AoS 2 Interactions and impact First you can see each of the four areas of study – U3 O1, … Note: the bolded text shows that the programming language is mandated (must be studied and used category), while the project management tool is not mandated but to be used. U3 O1 – this is a SAC – a mix of U3 O2 with a little bit of U4 O1 that we currently do – new – trace tables – technique for testing algorithms using table - coding, testing, internal doc U3 O2 – first part of SAT - design ideas, detailed design, SRS, project man, legal requirements, goals and objectives U4 O1 – second part of SAT - monitoring progress of plan, usability testing – testing on users, etc – more slides to follow later U4 O2 – second SAC new - connections to real-world problems - key legislation Software for Programming language Software for UML Prepare project plans Software for Programming language Document project progress VCAA Bulletin

4 School-based assessment weightings
U3O1 (SAC) 10 % study score U3O2 (SAT) U4O1 (SAT) U4O2 (SAC) 10 % study score SACs – mandated tasks, but teachers can decide the basis on which they will measure assessment e.g. use advisory performance descriptors, other published advice or their own measures. SATs- mandated tasks and mandated criteria for measuring and reporting assessment. The criteria and rubric are published by the VCAA and when scores are reported to VASS they are done on a criterion-by-criterion basis. SAT 30% study score

5 Software tools – example Unit 3
… software tools that students are required to both STUDY and USE in this unit Area of Study 1 An appropriate programming language Area of Study 2 Unified modelling language to create use cases … software tools that students are required to USE, but not required to study, in this unit Area of Study 2 Appropriate tool for documenting project plans The two tables identify the different status of software: . Software that is in the STUDIED AND USED table have explicit reference made to the relevant software functions in the key knowledge and hence the skills in using this software are assessable . Software that is in the ‘tool that is USED’ table, indicates that while the software needs to be used, it is not part of the key knowledge and their skills in using the software are not assessed. What is assessed is the knowledge or skills that are demonstrated through the use of the software.
